THE PROPERTY TAX.
Mr Reid proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman for his report. It met with his approval. He suggested thai ab the next quarterly meeting the Council should report- upon the question of encouraging 1 settlement upon the land, and also upon the property tax and the working of bhab Act. Here it had never been liked, but he noticed that the London financial papers were taking the rnabter up, and it was now stated by capitalists in England that the reason they had lefb the colony out of their operations was on account of bhepropeity tax. If that was so, it should be looked into. Mr Lodder seconded bhe vote of thanks, which was adopted, after which the Chamber adjourned.
