The Waipa County Council appear determined to vigorously enforce the regta-* tration of all dogs in their district. At the recent meeting of the Council the letting of the dog tax collection at a remuneration of s£d per dog was confirmed, the contractor giving a bond for the satisfactory carrying out of the duties, and agreeing to visit every dwelling in the County, outside the town district. In the last number of The Mercantile and Bankruptcy Gazette appears a notice of a B.S. dated December 4th, filed December 22nd, £140over stallion "Kenilworth," from William Robert Drown of Te Aroha, to J. Brown. On Thursday, 31st inst, the Domain at T<\uranga is to be the scene of the 120 yards running match for £50 a-side, between Tanner of that place and Ellesmere, the well-known athlete of Karangahake, in which much interest is felt both at Tauranga and Thames, The piOgiacnmo of the vaiious events will be found duly advertised in our columns to-day, by which it will be seen theTaurangaathletespurpose making the event the occasion for a day's sports of nil descriptions with liberal prizes open to all comers, and a large influx of ■ visitors f i om these and other parts is expected. Tho journey cm easily he accomplished from Te Aroh.i via Katikati ; and a very enjoyable day's outing 1 , and a dip in the briny cieep, bj obtained by a trip to Tauranga. We learn that the house and property known as " Cair's," situated aboutmidway between Te Aroha and Waiorongomai, was disposed of last week by the Bank of New Zealand to Mr 11. H. Adams. The house alone (having vineiy on either side, and with hot .md cold water pipes laid on, etc.), cost Ah T. W. Carr, who erected it m 1882, about £2000. There are some eighty acres of land attached, some o£ it very good quality, all fenced and more or less improved. On the failure of Messrs T. W. Carr and Sons in Mai oh 1883, this property formed one of the securities taken possession of by the Bank for overdraft ; and the B.u.k has remained in possession ever since, as, on account of the short lease (about fourteen yeais still to run) it was found impossible to effect a sale at a satisfactory figure. We understand Mr ' Adams purchased the property for the i very low sum of £500.
