Messrs C. E. Paget and Co. report for the past week as follows: — A fairly satisfactory week's business has been done, but in several lines supplies have been far short of demands. A brisk demand for potatoes for shipment has been experienced, but many large orders could not be filled, owing to growers holding buck. As this line is commanding good prices, growers should not neglect this market, especially as tho Australian market (as has been frequently proved) may oxporiencq a sharp fall at any moment. Fruit of all kinds, if in good order, has been selling readily at good rates, and no difficulty is felt in ridding any quantity. In grain, maize is slightly easier in price ; other kinds remain at last week's quotations, but sales are dull. The demand for hams and bacon of first-class quality keeps up. but inferior sorts are almost unsaleable. Fresh butter is still low in price, and owing to the fall in price in Australia corned butter is almost neglected. Poultry is commanding but poor rates, and tho supply of almost all kinds is in excess of the demand. The following prices were ruling for tho week : Produce, etc. — Potatoes : None to hand but Hobarts.
