TOWN BOARD.

Thk ordinaiy monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Town Board was held in the sample room of the Palace Hotgl on Saturday evening last. Present — Corns Gallagher (chairman), Eberf, Lipsey, H*»atheote, nn<l -Mills. ' Minutes : The minutes of the last mpnthly meeting, awl also of special meeting, held on Dec. loth, 1888, were read 'and confirmed. Correspondence — Inward : From the Treasury Depaitmenr, Wellington, stating that the sum of 14?, as gold revenue, had been lodged to the credit of the Board at the Bank of N.Z. — Received. Prom Controller and Auditor General, stnting that the sum of £1 was due for auditing the Board's books, and asking that the amount be se?it to the Audit office. Resolved that the fee be sent. From A. \V. Edwards, asking the Board's permission to eroct a shuttorbox on the lootpath of Boundary-street, ! to project out about nine inches from his store. After some discussion it wag resolved on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by C')jn Ebert : That the matter lie left in the hands of the Works Committee, jvith power to act. Unpaid ftates : It was decided to allow the Clerk another fortnight to collect what rates he could, and to give those who have not yet paid an opportunity of doing so, after which legal proceedings are lo be taken to recover all a-nouriN still unpaid. The Poundkeepi'r's report accompanied by a lemibtnnce of 2s l(Hd as commission, was read and received. Accjunts : The following accounts wei/e 'pugged for payment : — H. Brett, rent of office, £1 7s f>d ; John Dare, Inspector of Nuisance?, £2 10s ; J. M. Murpiv, 8s (commission at 5 per cent on' r£tes collected). £he Clerk state! the amount of rates collected during the past month was !£4 10s, and the amount still due about £00. This was all the business.
