THURSDAY, JAN. 10th, 1889. (Before Mr J. Ilott. J.P.)
Francis Henry Lees was charged by Constable Wild with (1J making use of abusive and insulting language in a pub(ic place on Jan. 9th, with intent to provoke a breach of the peace, and within the hearing of a constable. (2) With refusing to quit licensed premises (to wit the Palace Hotel), at Te Aroha on the same datp, when requested te do so by the licensee. Defendant pleaded not guilty to both charges. Constable Wild, and Geo. Ebert, proprietor of the Palace Hotel, gave evidence in support of both charges, which were fully proved, and it was shown in evidence that defendant had given Mr Ebert a great deal of trouble and annoyance both insido the hotel, and after he was ejected. There Was no previous record against defendant. Convicted and fined £1, and costs 2s, or in default seven days' imprisonment in Auckland prison for each offence.
