FLOODS IN AUSTRALIA. Melbourne, Jan. 2.

Thk most disastrous floods that have orcurred Mnce 1854 happened in the Castlemaine district yesterday afternoon and night. All the bridges in Castlemaine and Chewton districts have been destroyed, and the damage is enormous. The remains of one bridge were swept through the town. The traffic on the railway lines has been suspended. Many casualties and several fatalities are reported. Mrs Matthews got on a table with her infant to avoid the rising waters, but the table capsized and they were drowned. Two mineis named O'Connor and Davis were also drowned through the flooding of the Francis Ormond mine. Adelaide, this day. The weather has broken up, and there are heavy floods throughout the colony, calling very great damage. The intercolonial lailway traffic is suspended.
