HOLIDAYS IN WELLINGTON. THE FORESTERS ' FETE. Wellington, Dec. 27.
The weather eel in web on Chrisfcina s night, but the wind chopped round to the Soufch, and yesterday broke beautifully fine. A large number of excursionists left town by rail and steamer. The principal amusement was the Foresters' sports. The usual procession took place in the morning, and on this occasion they were permitted to pass through the Government grounds. His Excellency addressed a few wordb to the assembly, wishing the Order a prosperous career. About 2,500 attended the sports. The Boxing Day Cup was won by A. D. Mahoney, who scored two firsts aud a second. P. OBrien was second with two seconds and one first, and J. Tothill third with three thirds and one first. In the latter neither Mahoney nor OBrien started, and Tobhill consequently had a walk over. The mile rrce was won by A. D. Mahoney, with P. OBrien 2nd, W. Bettnetb 3rd. Time, smin. 6 y-sth sec. The other events were uninteresting.
