THE POPE AND ITALY. Rome, December 23.
Replying to an address from the Sacred College, Hjs Holiness the Pope said the whole world recognised his painful position. The recognition of his rignts as Sovereign Pontiff was not hostile to the interests of Italy, but wouW, in leality, advance the prospenty of that country.
