CABLEGRAMS. THE SOUDAN WAR. WITHDRAWAL OF TROOPS.
Suakim, December 23. Colonel Kitchener is engaged in the erection of forts on the sites of the trenches from which the Dervishes were expelled on Thursday last. The British troops have now returned to this city. The Dervishes have reformed their scattered forces, and are harassing the outposts. It is reported here that General Grenfell is much disgusted at the rumoured decision of the Imperial Government to withdraw from the Soudan, and that he will desist from turther pursuit of Osman Digna.
Suakam, December 25. The Scottish Borderers will embark for England on Thursday. Before the British troops leave the Soudan, several strong, permanent forts will be built to command the plains on the land side of this city.
