WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 26, 1888.

A far greater number of people left To A roll a to spend the Christmas holidays in Auckland, Thames, etc, (and to be present ut the Auckland and Thames races), on Monday last, than has been the <«se for several years past Over fifty return ti-dkets for Auckland were booked by that morning's train; and altogether there must Imve been fully eighty passengers by that train. A great many also left for Thames by coach, etc., whilst a few went to Matanmta races. On the day prior to Christmas hist year only about twenty return tickets to Auckland were issued at Te Aroha Station. Members of! tUo public school fete Committee are reminded that the next meeting of thu Committee will beheld in the school house on Thursday evening next at seven o'clock. It is to be hoped the members will all put in an appearance, as we understand there is quite a possibility of the annual treat falling through this year, unless a little more interest is shown by those who have been asked to carry out the necebbary arrangements ; and it is certainly most unreasonable to expect three or four to do all the woik. The drawing in connection with Mr C. R. Balcke'a Christmas tree came off in the Te Aroha Public Hall on Saturday last, and was very successful. The attendance was good, and the principal prize, that of an eij»ht-day clock, fell to Miss Armit, while Mr C, Reed, seemed second with a magnifi( ient doll,. The pioceedings woundup with a dunce.
