Wellington, Dec. 8. WELLINGTON GOLDFIELDS.

The Wellington PcrseveranceGoldMininjr Company lias received the report of the mining expert, Mr Oscar Herden, on stuft 1 from the mine. It is to the elFect that after having made repeated trials of &tone from the leadeih and quartz-formation with pestle and mortar, he linds that the leaders and big reef all yield a fair percentage of gold, which is considerably increased if the stone is roasted, showing that the pyrites which abound in the main reef contain gold carrying from lOdwt to 12dwt to the ton by rough crushing and panning without picking specimens. Properly treated witli modern scientific appliances, Mr Herden thinks the stone should yield loz. to the ton at least. Rich patches sometimes occur. He recommends the Company to thoroughly test the value of the property by running a low level drive across the strata, so as to strike the leaders and reef 300 feet below the surface of the present workings. Excellent prospects are being 1 obtained from the Golden Spur claim, Mahakipawa, which is owned by gentlemen in Picton and Wellington. The reef lias been driven upon for a distance of 10 feet, and an assay of stone made at the Colonial Museum givds the return at tho rate of 3ojs to the ton. As the lode is 3 feet thick the yield will more l^han pay working expenses.
