POETRY. THE GUM FIELD NEAR HELENS-
A Sonnet. ■ ■ • A blithesome breeze careers o'er hill and plain, Dull leaden clouds flit o'er these alien skios, Veiling the sun s ilereo rays, as t again < Retrace a scene familiar to mine eyes. Mile upon mile outstretch those vadty fields, Hemmed in by sand-hlls and the bu3h-clad heights, Amid whose ne&llinf? clefts the shanty yields A limoly shelter and a low delights To those rough toilers, whose Bohemian life Js blent with Nature in incessant strife. All, all is si ill oa this swoet Sabbath morn! Savo the shrill warblings of- the skylark's strain, Or some faint-echoing chorus that is borne . From those rude habitations of tho plain.
