Murbhy's Landing.

The Te Arohrt West sottlers state they nro very nmch inconvenienced in consequence of the abolition of the punt at Murphy's Landing, as a movement is on foot to petition the Council on the subject. The question was discusse-1 at a meeting of settlors held in the schoolhouse, Te Arohn West, on Saturday evening, the Ist inst., at 8 p.m. On the motion of Mr Brunn, Mr H. W. Reynolds was voted to the chair. The following resolutions were put to the meeting seriatim, and carried unanimously :—: — Proposed by Mr C. Brnnn, and seconded by Mr H. D. Johnson : That since the removal of the Fe"rry at Murphy's Landing, serious inconvenience has been experienced in crossing the river by the residents and settlers on both sides, and by the travelling public generally, as it is now necessary in order to cross from one side of the river to the other to make a long devour by way of Te Aroha, and that this meeting therefore desires to respectfully urge upon the Council the necessity for taking immediate steps to hava communication re-established. Proposed by Mr J. Borne, and seconded by Mr J. Jackson : That as there can now no longer be any doubt * that Waiorongomai will become in the near future a populous and thriving mining centre, it is important that convenient means of communication between it and the opposite side of the river should be provided, and this meeting 13 of opinion that the Council should endeavour ,to have a traffic bridge constructed across the river at Murphy's Landing, and, pending the erection of the same, should have the punt replaced for immediate tjsp. Proposed by«Mr H. D. Johnson, and seconded by Mr Flatt : That the Chairxnan be requested to forward the foregoing resolutions to the County Council, and that he be empowered to call another meeting, or take such action as he may think fit, when he receives a reply. Proposed by Mr J. Flatt, and seconded by Mr C. Brunn : That a petition to the same effect be got up for signature by the settlers, and forwarded to the County Council. Proposed by Mr E. W, Brothers, and seconded by Mr J. Flatt: That the Chairman (Mr H. W. Reynolds), and Messrs C. Brunn, and H. D. Johnson be appointed a committee to draw up the petition and obtain signatures. ' A vote of thanks s to the Chair brought tl c proceedings to a close.
