Up famed Eden's sleep ascent Lato my wandering steps were uunL ICre the golden orb of day ] Lad dissolved the shadows crrey. Nature here, with breath of balm. Breathes around a holy calm. .•Softly through the trembling air Comes the skylark's morning prayer, And the blackbird's mellow song' From the pine shade floats along. Here, before the raptured gaze. Natur all her charms displays; League on league extending wide bpreads 10 view on either hide, lyiountain heig-ht and fertile plain, With tlic wide maiostic main. Wake, ye sleeper* biathtul, rise ! Up, behold the iwimhng skies. Haste, behold tho god oi clay, Gilding hiS ti mmphal way. As the trembling lamps expire, Nc-tui c dons her gay attire. .See, ij'om ocr jon mountaai dun, Wash the heralds of the tun. Scattering with their shafts ofliGrht Fancies weird, and shades or night. Now, above the wooded veit,e, Seehibb riling brow emerge; As the flaming azure ulows. How the golden priory" Ho v.s> O'er the emerald-mantled earUi. Bearer of another birth ! All above and all around Sounds ot life and ,ioi abound. And the hovering vapuuro fiy. Melting in the 'ucid t>kj. Full in view, profuselj grand O'er tho groon and pleasant land. Smiling lio'i'ci ami man^'ons rise, d-ladd nniK soui and pleasing- eyes; And tho city iar below In the morning's ruddy glow Beauteous bits in \ irgin pride, NurUned by the restless tide, liibinuc iro.ii the rippling deep. Watch anu wind green inlets keep, l-aden barK-,. willi flashing wing, llithprwavd their treasures bring; Borne upon (he flowing tide, halely into poi t they glide.
