The Costs of a Presidential Campaign.

It appears from figures just published, that the expenses of a Presidential campaign in the United States are very heavy. The cost of an Assembly district in one of these campaigns is 7,000 dollars, or of New York City about 250,000 doliars. This is exclusive of the official election expenses, which . amount to 290,000 dollars for the city and United States officials. A torchlight parade in New York averages 500 dollars per election district, or from 12,0000 dollars to 2 ),000 dollars. A lar#e public meeting costs from 3,000 dollars to 4,000 dollars. Chamberlain Ivins, in his work on the cost of elections in New York City, estimates the total of an average year at 700,000 clollai s, exclush c of personal expenses* of Candida U*-.
