That Bea tuy show at Spa.
Spa, in Belgium, lias almo. b regained its ancient fame. Distinguished persons going theie this year to drink its ferruginou s wuteis. an>! to inlnde the invigorating airo the Ardennes, had pro\ ided ior them by the Adminis 1 ration distractions ot all kinds, of which bull fights were by no mean«> the most dnpioubincluiKiclci. The beauty show, which vied with them in attraction, and was as full of danger to tho more impressionable part of mankind as were the bulls to the toreadors, had soon inscribed on the list ior enn petition, 350 ladies, giving to the jurymen a task more difficult than that of Paris, the Trojan. But the jury seemed to appiove themselves modern Trojans. The fair compel itors, according to the "Times" cui respondent, took care to exhibit their photographs as widely ass possible. The jury communued operations by excluding 27 ladie^, who had obtained, in the hr.st classing, only the number tour in the scale of merit, from lurther competition. If those jurors, or anyone of them, had had the ill-luck to hud themselves, or himself, m company \\ i till am of thw;?'' 1 disappointed damsels, they, 01 he, would probably have p <s&ed a bad quarter of an hour. Owing, however, to tha amiable display by their own sox — over and above that oi their most fortunate competitors of the usual sort of feminine s\ mpathy in kindred cases, these ladies speedily left Spa, so as to escape the gibes unsparingly levelled at them. The lurvmen at the time of the '* Times '" roriespondent's mission, were engaged in investigating the claini3 of the beauties elated under No. 3 — a clays which was- likely also to be weeded a& extensively as No. 4 aheady. It was expected that about 30 would be admitted to the final competition out of the 350 entered for the race an extent ol "scratching" probably never befote equalled.
