" Doctor" Drummond Death.

„ , SrDXEY, [November 22. When* the Sydney Doteotivo Departmen received information aboub a fortnight ago bhiib "Dr. Drummond, the AshfieJd ab sconder, had been arrested at Colombo and died immediately afterwards, it was surmised thafc lie had committed suicide by taking poi&on. It now appears that this surmise was incorrect, for tho following telegram was recoivad from Colombo by the Detective Department on Sunday last : — "Drummond died apoplexy. We hold 5,965 sovereigns ; you can have thorn on giving a written guarantee to the Ceylon Government that j'ou will be responsible for any claim on the amount." On leaving Sydney the fugitive had in his possession £6,500 of his wife's money, which she had entrusted to him for investment in her behalf. It is understood that there will be no difficulty in obtaining what remains of that sum and returning it to Mrs Drummond. "When her husband left Sydney it was thought that ho had other moneys, but the amount found upon him shows that he must have been dependent upon this money for the means of flight in tho event of the discovery of the fraudulent possession of the diplomas by which he practised. The shock of finding all his plans thwarted by his arrest at Colombo in all probability induced the apoplexjr which terminated his strange career.
