Sydxev, November 27. Thi: sculling race between W. Beach and E. Hanlan for £500 a-fcide was rowed over the championship court>e on the Parramatta Biver this afternoon. There was a large attendance at the various points of vantage along the banks of the tiver. Bearh had the call in betting, and 2 to 1 was laid on him. A good start was effected, and befoie £;oing two hundred 3 "eOs Beach had a pronounced lead, hut Hanlan, with a grand spurt, gradually reduced the gap, and passing the mile post the boats were on level terms. Crossing over to Putney, the Canadian had a slight lead, but the rough water interfered with him, and Beach again forged ahead. When "Cabarita was reached Beach led hie opponent by two and a-half lengths, when the latter, again spurting, reduced the distance. Beach al&o increased his pace, it was evident each oarsman did what was left in him. From Gladesviile Hanlan rowed a plucky losing race, but could not; get on even terms with Beach, who won by two lengths. Time, 21min 15sec.

Melbourne, November 27. Ben Seth, the lightweight pugilist, recently arrived from^England, knocked out W. Murphy, of Auckland, in six rounds. Murphy fought gamely, and the contest was one of the best seen in Melbourne for some time past. !
