MIN ING NEWS.
Thames, Nov. 27. Sa.\ox. — The drive at No. 5 level has now been extended about 30 feet past the winze recently sunk from No. 4 level, and yesterday (Tuesday) ib was broken down. The lode averaged about 18 inches in thickness, and colours of gold were seen in a portion of the quartz broken out about 16 feet ahead of this winze, and some 20 feet from the present face. The country is a kindly channel of sandstone, and favourable for progress, but a further distance of 120 ft or 130fb will require to be driven before the No, 1 break is reached, and where, ib is expected, quartz of good grade will be met with. The lode having now been taken clown, the work of continuing the drive has been resumed, and stripping is again proceeding. At No. 3 level the drive is now in 25ft, and colours of gold were last seen when breaking down the quartz. With reference to the various stones, there is really no change bo report. Colours of gold are invariably observed in the quartz coming to hand from them. The fifth stope has been carried up to the boundary, but the sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth are being: continued, while a tenth has been started. The reef in the last mentioned is somewhat pinched. There is no change to menbion from any obher part of the mine.
