TWO SAD FATALITIES.
Nelson, Nov. 28. A YOUJKG lady named Louisa EmilyEdwards was drowned yesterday afternoon in the river at the Wairoa Gorge while bathing with a companion, Miss Best. The latter got out of her depth, and called for assistance, Miss Edwai'ds attempted to rescue her, and was drowned. Miss Best got out of the hole and went for assistance, but Miss Edwards was dead when help arrived. At the inquest to-day a verdict of "Accidental death " was returned.
Christciiukcii, Nov. 27. Hemy Wefchorell, proprictci' of the Amborloy flax mill, while shifting bedding this morning had his legs entangled in the machinery. The flesh was torn off the right leg, which was broken above the ankle. The left leg was broken above the knee. The right leg was amputated, but he sank and died at two p.m.
