MINING NEWS. RICH DISCOVERY AT THE TIKI. Thames. Nov. 26.

What gives every indication of a valuable di&covei'y of gold - bearing stone, has been mode at the Tiki, Five weeks ag° a syndicate of Auckland gentlemen took in hand about 38 acres of land, 'vhich includes the old claims known as Blackmoor's, Barnetb's, Home Rule and the Union. The idea was to form them into one claim, under the name of Calliope, in consequence, no doubt, to Mr Pierce Lanigan being one of the promotersoi the scheme. There is a battery on the ground, and as no dead work had to be done, operations were commenced right away. So far the result has been highly gratifying. Three good goid-bearing leefs have been met with. No 1 is called the Big Flat Reef and from it 531b of stone have been forwarded to Auckland. This may be seen in Mr Seymour Thorne George's room at Messrs Jackson and ftussell's [office, Shortland -street. The- stone freely shows coarse gold all through it. This reef is 3 feet 6 inches, and bhould with such favourable specimens prove highly remunerative to work. A second reef, which is really a continuation of Blackmoor's reef, has also been picked up, and the stone sent from this also shows bands of gold plainly. Judging from its weight this bhould be very -\aluable stone. Another reef which has been encountered has been named Flat Reef No. 2. It is really a continuation of Mr Isaacs' reef, and is from 1 foot to 18 inches in thickness. The stone forwarded from this reef shows fine dabs of gold. Judging by appearances, this syndicate should have got on a good thing.

Tkentox. — The shaft has been sunk five feet during the week, which makes its tolal depth 484fb. There is no change in the bottom, the country being btill very hard. New Fearnought. — An excellent class of country prevails in the main line, which is in a distance of £5 feet. The ground has come in a little easier, enabling better progress to be made. The quartz that has been broken down is of a kindly description, showing colours of gold and an excellent class of mineral.

Nkw Manuicau. — The improvement in Mulligan's leader still continues, and colours of gold are seen in the quartz, which carries excellent mineral. The crushing is shaping for a payable return. Saxon. — The fctopes are producing quartz of payable grade, and occasionally a small parcel of picked stone is obtained. There is no change wot thy of mention in the reef at No. 5 level. The drive at No 3 level on hangingwull reef is passing through a good class of country, while the reef is 18 inches in thickness and is well mineralized. A few colours of gold are seen at each breaking down. Amalgam from berdans for week, 140oz.

New Prince Imf'Kkial. — Uold lias been &een in the small veins on No. 2 level, and this shows that the lead should also contain srold when mot with.

Tbibuters. — There are now only four parties at work in the mine. Dunn and Pearce crushed 1^ loads quartz for the good return of lOst 801b lloz melted gold.
