Trustees for Minors : —The Court sat for the purpose of appointing -trustees s for certain minors interested in the Paeroa Township Block, Mr A. P. Puckey, Clerk of the Court, interpreted. Hirawa te Moananui, was sworn, and stated he wished to be appointed trustee for Tumatekttua Paka, a minor interested in the Paeroa Block, in the place of Rapata Te Arakai, deceased: He said Paka wished he should be appointed, and had written a letter to that effect - (produced;. The lad's mother was his cousin. Riki Paka te Arao "said he wished 1 to be appointod as one of the trustees. He had an interest in the land, being one of the original grantees. The lad was his grandson. , E[irawa te Moananui said he had no objection to- his being appointed with him. " Karauria Paka lodged an objection to the effect tha f . the lad was under age. His Honor Said fckcy troulJ harp to go by the orders filed,, which showed him to be in- his 18th year. Mr J. M, Bobson stated with respecb to the application that he represented a committee of Paeroa residents, and it was wished that the fcwo natives applying bo appointed. t His Honor made an order that , j Hiifcwi fee Moananui, and Riki Paka te ' | Amobe tinstees in the place of Rapata te / Arakai, deceased. Hirawa te Moauanui next supported an application to be appointed trustee for Te Morehu te Putu j a minor having interest in the Paeroa blpck r his previous trustee, Rihi te Ao, being dead. He I said he made application, during the boy's absence, but he was now in court, The lad stated he did not wish a. trustee, as he believed he was over age. His Honor said be was bound to act according to the order, which showed he I was sixteen on the 30th October, 1886. Upon being further questioned by His Honor, the lad said he believed he was nineteen. Putu asked if a trustee would have power to sell his interest in the property. His Honor replied that this cbnld not be done "without an order four the Judge of the Supreme Court. In answer to some further questions, Putu said lie received rate 3 from the township, to which His Honor sail he was not competent to give a receipt for the money, and if the tenants refuse! ft> pay, they could not becompe.llel. There must therefoie besometriistecsappointetly but he would meet his views in the matter aa far as possible. Whoever the Euro-peans-were who took his receipt, they were doing a very foolisii thing. At this stnge the Court was adjourned for an hour, in order that the natives mig-ht settle between themselrea who should be trustee. When Court resumed, Putu said he wished two trustees appointed, viz., Hirawa te Moananui and Raharoi Hikuiro. His Honor mnde an order accordingly. Hirama te Moananni applied to be appointed trustee for Mokopuna Biraina, his daughter, three years of age. When the order of succession was made out a . trustee was appointed under the Native LanrtsMinistration Act,. but that trusteeship was now invalid. His Honor granted nn order appointing Hiran>a te Moananui and Te Moengarua Tnraati as trustees to Mokopuna Hiramn.
