FIRE ON THE LANGSTONE. CARGO INSURED FOR £36,000. Napier, Nov. 14.
The damage done by' the fire on board the shjp Langstone is estimated at £5,000. ' About 160 bales of wool were destroyed, and 1,200 thoroughly soaked. The forward pavb of the deck and forecastle , will have to be renewed. The whole cargo will have to be discharged and fellmongered, but the after portion of the cargo is not damaged except by.watjer. The fire .is' believed to have been caused by the galley., Over 400 tons of water were , pumped into the vessel, , sinking her three feet. >• f , The Langstone was commanded » by Captain Tonkin, i and' the agents are Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. She is a fine iron barque of 646 tons register. She was built afc Buhdeflancl in 1869, and has, therefore, been' nineteen 'years in the service. , She belongs to fche Shaw, SaviH, and Albion line. S^he is'lB6 feet long, 31 feet wide, and 19 feet 6 inches' deep. ' '" The cargo' is insured* in the Universal (London) Office, for £13,037,"in the Union for £530, and in the Natipnal for £3,309.
