Me, \V: L.- Reks has applied to Mr ' Goschon, Chancellor of the Exchequer, for a guarantee, of 3 per cent, upon the j sum of £300,000, to be expended -in ! emigrating; to New Zealand two thousand families of Lewis crofters who are now in danger of starving. The Government are favourable to the proposals, but are reluctant to act until the colonial Govornment approves* b£ the scheme. The State and Colonisation Association have withheld their approval of Mr Reess co-opera-tive proposal, but are willing to as&ist individually.
