TAURAN GA ITEMS. [own Correspondent.] Tauranga, Nov. 10.
Quit County Council met on the 6th in&t., when some correspondence was read referring to the gold fields revenue from thnt portion of Waiorongomai which it is asserted lies within Tauranga County. The Treasury denied all knowledge of the matter, and referred the Council to the Mines Department and the Warden, as the proper quarter to obtain information. The members generally were of bpinion that it would bo fufcilo to attempt to obtain a disgorgement of revenues paid to the wrong quarter ; neither would this course be a fair one, as the amount, and more besides, has been chiefly spent in and about Waiorongomai. Later in the meeting Cr Jonathan Brown, one of the subcommittee appointed to enquire into this matter, said he would read a report of what had been done so far, and a suggestion that the committee had to recommend to the Council's consideration. The Council then decided that it would be better that these proceedings should take place in camera, the Press representatives therefore were precluded from obtaining information. I have it, however, from a source that can be perfectly relied on, that the intention of this Council is to try and secure a settlement of affairs that will be perfectly satisfactory to all parties, by a re-adjustment of the boundaries according to natural demarcation at and about where the counties of Tauranga, Piako, and Ohinemnri touch eafh other ; tha nature of which I will communicate to yon as soon as it is made public. I gathered that nothing further could be done un'oil the next mooting of Parliament. The formation of Thompson's Track is being proceeded with, about three quarters of a mile being already completed : Though ostensibly the track is only intended for horse traffic it is really being formed of sufficient width to allow of driving a buggy, and the gradients are extremely easy. By the way, it was mentioned incidently, at the meeting of Tauranga County Council, that Piako County Council was extremely remiss in keeping open its portion of the Tauranga-Oam^ bridge road, thus rendering the trouble taken by our Council in. removing trees, renewing culverts, etc., practically of little avail.
