Exchange was first to show in front, followed by Man ton, Silvermark, Son-of-a-Gun, Vandal, Lochiel, Strenuous, British Lion, and St. Clair — the last two whipping in. At Cutts's, Silvermark went into second place. ]Slo material change occurred till ab the top of the turn, where Man ton gained second place, British Lion being third, and Son-of-a-Gun fourth. Entering the straight, Man ton and Son-of-a Gun overhauled Exchange, but the former came on full of running and won easily by five lengths ; Exchange being 3 lengths away. British Lion was fourth ; Leopold, Lochiel, Vandal, Silvermark, Ruby, Strenuous, and St. Clair finising in order. Time, ornin 31^sec. Dividends :£3 12s and £3 17s. In the New Zoaland Cup, Manton was a warm favourite on the totalisator, 841 tickets out of 3,49S being on him ; 761 on Lochiel ; 745 on Exchange ; 251 on Son-of a-Gun. Welcome Stakks, of 300sovs ; 4 furlongs. Mr E. Cutts's Cymea, Bst (Matthews.)... 1 Mr O. O'Brien's Dunkeld, Bst 51b (Cochrane) ... 2 Hon. W. Robinson's Merrio England, Bsb 51b (White) 3 Corunna (Bst 51b), Savoy (Bst 51b), Retina (Bst), Alsace (Bsb), also started. After a dozen unsuccessful attempts, the flag dropped while the field were in nice line. Corunna, on the outside, Retina in the centre, and Merrie England next the rails, were first to show in front, but Cyrnea drew level in the first hundred yards, and at the half-distance was a couple of lengths in front of Dunkeld, who had headed the others. A furlong further on tho whips were out to everything but Cymea, and the filly going on, won very easily by two lengths from Dunkeld, who was the same distance in front of Merrie England, with Alsace fourth, and Corunna fifth. Time, 50f sec. Dividends : Inside, £6 8s ; outside, £9 15s 6d.
