LORD ONSLOW APPOINTED GOVERNOR.

On Wednesday last the Premier received a cablegram from the Agent- General containing an official intimation from the Secretary of State for the Colonies that the Earl oE Onslow had been appointed to succeed Sir William Jervois, as Governor of New Zealand.

Lord Onslow is Under-Secretary fof the Colonies in the Salisbury Government. He was born on the 7th March, 1853. He is txpected to arrive in the Colony next March. He married Lady Florence Coldstono Gardner, eldest daughter of Lord Gardner, in 1875, and has three children, a son (Viscount Cranley, born in 1876), and two daughters (born in 1881 and 1885.) He was appointed Under-Secretary for the Colonies in 1887. He is the owner of an estato which produces a rental of £11,000 a year,
