Thames, November 2. New Alburn [A.— -A breaking down of the reef in the new eastern block at the battery level took place yesterday afternoon, when 61b picked stone were obtained, while colours of gold were also seen pretty freely distributed throughout the general dirt. Caledonian. — Crushing is proceeding on behalf of this Company. New Manukap. — Mulligan's leader is looking well, but no gold has been seen. The small leader in the footwall showed a little gold at breaking down, and about 61b picked stone were saved during the week. MATA.—The work in the mine is going on all right. The next portion of the leading sfcope is expected to reach softer country. No gold has been seen lately, but ib is full of mineral, and it would be difficult to see gold in it. It is not likely that the quartz will be crushed for some weeks yet. Royal Oak. — -The mine manager reports : — " Since last report the reef has been partly broken down, from which there were a few pounds of picked stone, also gold left showing in the reef, and loose gold in the fissures of the reef. The reef is now well defined, and showing good indications with regular Avails. At present the rise is being timbered up. The tiibuters have crushed 701b picked stone for a yield of 21oz retorted gold.
Thames, November 3. New Manukau. — The monthly cleaning up and retorting for this Company will probably take place to-morrow afternoon. Colours of gold are seen in the quartz being broken out. Deep Level Cross. — The Drainage Board have, it is understood, granted this company the free use of the big pump shaft and also the winding; engine. A limited staff of men is employed in the mine, and rising has been staited on the reef at the 100 feet level. No quartz, however, has yet been broken down. Gem (YWiiomo). — It is reported that this mine is to be offered for sale in Melbourne. Saxon. — Quartz of payable giade continues to come to hand, but there is no change worthy of mention since my last report. Tug Prisck Imperial. — A little of the shaft leader was broken out on Thursday. It is fully 5 inches in thickness and contains a nice class of quat tz, but no gold was seen. Still there is very little stone yet, so that a correct report of the lead can hardly be formed. Thib morning a start was made at the Cambria battery to reduce the 15 loads of quartz on ha id. OioLDWATim G.M.Co,— A paicel of five tons of ore from the Gold water G.M.Co.'s mine, Whangamata, is now in course of treatment at the ( School of Mines. It will be about a fortnight beforo it is completed.
Thames, Nov 3. PROPOSED PURCHASE OF LAND. Yesterday Mr Brodie, County Chairman, telegraphed Lo the Minister of Mines that a half-share in the Karaka No. 1 block was in the market for sale v and inquiring whether the Government would purchase it, as the land was in the goldtield, and parties were trying to buy it. The land takes in the upper part of Waiotahi and Karaka. A reply was to-day received from the Hon. Mr Richardson as follows :—": — " Question of purchase Karaka No. 1 block is a large one and cannot be settled without full particulars, which would be too long to telegraph. This is necessary as there are other blocks of the same name." The County Chairman intends to forward the required information by post as soon as possible. Saxon. — 201b of picked stone were got to-day from the 6th stope on the footwall reef, No. 3 level.
