SIR WILLIAM JERVOIS. Wellington, Oct. 31.

A private cable message from London received in Wellington yesterday conveyed the report that Sir William Jervois on retiring from the Governorship of New Zealand would succeed the late Sir A. Musgrave as Governor of Queensland. Up to a late hour last night no instructions to this effect had been l-eceived at Government House, and the rumour is considered a very improbable one. It is understood that Bis Excellency's arraugemenfcs for his approaching visit to England are so definitely made that only very special pressure on the score of urgent public duty would induce him to accept the Queensland appointment.
