Blenheim, Oct. 30. MARLBOROUGH GOLDFIELDS.

Two prospectors at Waikaiaho named Hart and Gibson got on Saturday 370z 13d\vt gold, including a 16oz nugget. The first young lady who climbed to the claim was presented with a large nugget.

It would appear as though there was some probability of the Newberrv-Vauoin Company erecting one of their plants at Reefton, as Dr. Schiedcl has been at that place for the past two or three weeks making inquiries as to whether it is likely the process would prove successful for treating the ores of that district. A recent Greymouth paper has the following on the subject : — *' Dr. Schiedel, agent of the New Zealand patent for the Newberry-Vautin chlorination process, has completed assays of the tailingsand pyrites from 12 mines at Reefton, and will apply to all the leadiug companies asking tiiat five tons of tailings and an equal quantity of concentrations be sent from each battery to the Thames for treatment there under the Newberry-Vautin process. Upon this being done the holders of the patent ris-hts will guarantee to save from 95 to 98 per cent, of the gold contained, and either purchase the w hole of the tailings in bulk or erect a plant in Reefton, treating the stuff at so much per ton, or allow the companies to erect and Mse the process, charging a royalty upon all gold obtained. Mr Pen ton, of the Reefton School of Mines, says all the pyrites in that field contain on an average 2|oz of gold per ton."
