OHINEMURI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Paeroa, Friday.
A meeting of the Baeroa Public Library Committee was held afc the Library building on Wednesday afternoon. Present : — Messrs Sullivan (librarian), Rhodes (treasurer), Phillips (secretary), Kenny, Mitohel, and Robson. Mr Rhodes occupied the chair. It was resolved to start a branch of the library at the Junction Timber Mill if it could be done. The long-talked of Reading Room was next the subject of a hot discussion. Several members thought that it was a most desirable thing, and it was resolved to open the Library building on the evenings of Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. A chess and draught club is also to be inaugurated. The Treasurer reported that funds were low chiefly owing to the cessation of the Government subsidy. It was resolved to hold a ball in aid of the funds at an early date. The meeting then closed. Mr Kersey Cooper will get his machine house erected immediately. There is little to report in mining since my last. Mr W. Morgan, junr., who was somewhat seriously hurt last Saturday by being; thrown from a horse, has been to the Thames and had his wounds attended to. He is now getting all right. We are well off for coaches. Every day the Thames-Te Aroha coaches run aq usual, while beside are Mr Kennedy's Karangahake bus and Mr Geo. Crosby's Waihi coach, as well as the bi-weeldy Tauranga service. The Waihi coach is run by the well known East Coaster, Harry Stonehill. Mr Kennedy himself takes charge of the Karangahake coach. The Moehau scow with 25,000 bricks for Mr J. W. Walker, Waihi, is expected on Monday. The Thames Harbour Board have had lawyer's letters sent to all defanlters who are indebted for wharfage dues during the regime of the Board here. Several intend to fight the case, which I understand will bo a Supreme Court one, as it hinges upon the question of the proper constitution of the Board.
A good whitewash may be made as foX lows : — Take one peck of burned stone lime and slack it with boiling water. Do not use more water than is necessary to have the lime slowly crumble, and use a tight barrel for the purpose, When it is fine pour riiough boiling 1 water over it to make a thick mass. Now add one quart of kerosene to a gallon of skim milk, mix well and pour the mixtuie into the barrel. "Next put a pound of caibonate of lime in th p barrel. Stir the whole well and add sufficient hot or cold water to give it the proper consistency. If yon "want to me a tolpgnph boy run, watch him on his way to dinner. Teacher — " What is vploeitv." Pupil — " Velocity is what a man puts a hot plato down with." Any life that is worth living for must bo a struggle, a swimming not with, but against the stream. — Dean Stanley. ' You nre a nuisance ; I'll commit you,' said an offended judge to a noisy person in court. 'Yon have no right to commit a nuisance,' said the offender.
