DRAUGHTS. PROBLEM.

(By Mr. E. A. Durgin, Boston, Mass.)

Position : Black men on 5, 12 ; king on 23. White men on 16, 19, 20 ; king on 2. Black to move, White to win.

SOLUTION OF PROBLEM IN STAR OF OCTOBER 13. (By Mr James Wyllic.) Black Ks on 11, 13, 22, White Ks on 3, 10, 30. White to muvo and win. 10-14 16-19 10-25 27-32 24-27 32-23 11-16 7-10 23-27 19-24 28-32 17-19 3- 7 19-23 15-19 32-28 14-17 W. wins. Solutions received from B. Walsh and J. Wright, neither correct, but both very ingenious. The former varies by playing 7-11 instead of 7-10 at while's third move, but brings out the same result — his last three moves being identical with those given above. Mr Wrights solution i& pretty wide of the maik, as it makes it possible to draw the game.

SINULE CORNER GAME. A correspondent writes : — ' I send Uie following game played in the che&s and draughts room at the Free Library, and will you ask the ciitics ir they cau show a draw for black after the starred move' : —

WYLLIK IN MELBOURNE. "The Dyke" Came. Played between Messrs Wyllie and S. FyfeFyfes move.

DRAUGHTS ITEMS. A Ches3 and Dr.-mghts Club has been formed at Lyfcfcelton. Auckland draughts players do not appear to be at all " clubbable." A Town v. Covmtiy nmlch was played recently between 10 Oamaru players and a like number from Pnkeuri and Papakaio. The town team was victorious. Thedraughtspla^ersof Christohurch have resolved upon tho formation of a central Club as the best means of cultivating draughts in the province. The following office bearers -werechosen ; — I'resident, MrD. lleese ; Vice-Presidents, Messrs T. Menzies and H. W. Kay ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr I. Woolfe ; Committee, M(ssrsJ. Faith, Gibb, Little and Reid. The Caledonian Society's loom was chosen as the Club's headquarters.
