DAIRY INDUSTRY. REPORT BY PROFESSOR LONG. Wellington, October 20.

The Agent-General has forwarded the pre. liminary report of Professor Long, of Stevenage, England, upon dairy farming in England. Professor Long states that he has no hesitation in expressing the belief that there is no country "in the world which is better adapted for carrying on this industry successfully than New Zealand, and he says that if the settlers in the colony will avoid the Danish system of making butter and cheese they will be able to produce a much superior article to the Danes. He recommends the Government to establish central stations for training persons to instruct farmers in the scientific manufacture of butter and cheese.

The Dogwood Tree.— They were young lovers, and, as they strolled through the ramble in Central Park, the future looked very bright and pleasant to them. « That is a dogwood tree, my love,' he said, touching it lightly with his stick.—* How do you know it's a dogwood tree, George, dear?'— 'lean tell it by it's t bark, my darling.' And then a policeman ordered them off the grass, and they were, very, very happy.
