DANGER AHEAD. Owing 1 to defects in the 20 inch water pipes, some of them running near to the shaft and workings of the ISlew Prince Imperial Mine and big pump, the Mining Inspector has served a notice on the managers of both, stating that he considers there is danger to the men w orking below .should any of these pipes burst in close proximity, as the uish of water might preveno the men getting to the shaft, especially if the workings are distant. He urged that the water supply committee should be applied to, to take instant action to prevent the mines being' flooded or injury to the miner*. The matter has been referred to the Minister of Alines.

Dukedin, October 15. AN IMPORTANT DECISION. Mr Ju&lice "Williams delivered a judgment of importance to com pan y promoters and others in Chambers to-day. William Nahr and others applied to have their names removed from the l egister of shaveholders of the \Vareatea Gold Mining Company. His Honor said the case must be determined on the wording of the application for shares, if there was a eontiact contained. In the case of Nahr, the application was to the directors of an existing company for shares in that company, and the agreement was to accept the shares allotted, subject to the i*ules of the Company. > Now, at the time of this application the Company was not constituted. There were no directors and no rules. Allotment was, therefore, not in effect. What was asked for ? He asked for something which could not be, and was not given him ; but something else was given him, which he is unwilling to accept. After the formation he did nothing which committed him to acceptance of the shares, and his name ought to bo removed fiom the register. An order was made accordingly.

Too Orthodox — Mother (after church) — What a good old soul the Rev. Dr. Goodman is. If there ever was a. saint oh earth he is'ono. Daughter— Ye-es, mamma ; but did you not notice how awfully, his trousers bag at the knees ?
