THE FACES OF THE POOR.

When wealth is teeming o'er the land, And cotters overflow, When very few need wear the brand Of misexy and woe ; When most men are to others kind, And losses will endure, There always are a few who grind, The faces ot the poor. The shark who lives up some dark lane, The money-lender lean, Must always bear the brand of Cain Upon his forehead mean. Extortion waits on him behind. And greed hia paramour, Ho chuckles and he loves to grind The face* of the poor. Tho interest he is wont to charge Is shent per shent at least, He smiles, and vows it's not too large, The money-grubbing beast. And when the needy ones can't find The coin to pay, be sure He sends the bailiff off to grind The faces of the poor. No mercy he has over shown. No pity in his eye, The poor one that obtains a loan Must pay it, starve and die. To wretched ones he's deaf and blind, He drives them from his dqoi . And to his dying day he'll grind The faces of the poor. Old Nick will toast him on his prong, And boil him in his pot, And for each paltry cruel wrong Will make it very hot. Before he roasts him he'll remind The vampire there's no cure, Because he always loved to grind The faces of the poor.
