MINING NEWS.

New Albuhma. — Crushing: has been commenced at the Caledonian battery. There are 20 loads of quarts and about 601b picked stone to put through, which should tjire a remunerative return.

Camivria. — The only work in progress at No. 4 level is the lise, which is being pub up in a kindly channel of sandstone, while the leader U also composed of quartz of a favourable description, and colours of gold are occasionally observed when breaking down. Colours of gold are also &een in the quart/ coming to hand from the var ous stopes. Fair pi ogress is being made with the sinking of the winze on No. 6 leader fiom No. 3 level. The mine manager wired to-day that he has cut No. 1 leader in the rise at No. 4 level.

Saxox. — There are now 3750z of amalgam on hand. The full force of stampers at the New Prince Imperial battery is kept continuously employed 1 educing quartz fiom this Company'R mine, the aveiage tonnage put through daily being 26 loads, or equal to 39 tons-. In consequence ot the air being rather light in the lise recently started at No. 5 level, the manager has found ib necessary to discontinue this woik, and will now commence sinking a winze on the reef from No. 4 level, at a point 50ft. ahead of the drive now in piogress at No. 5 level. When communication is thus effected between the two levels, the ventilation will be excellent ; while, in the event of the gas using suddenly, the men will also be able to mako their exit from the workings at No. 5 level in a very short space of time, and by other means than the shaft. The country in the drive at this level is exceedingly tight at present, bub it is hoped that it will improve a shoit distance ahead. The reef varies in thickness irom 12 to 18 inches, and a few colours of gold were observed in the quartz when last breaking down. The stopes on the hang-ing-wah and footwall leaders continue to produce payable quartz, while a total of 751b of picked stone has accumulated since the last cleaning up and retorting took place.

Surprisk (Puriri). — There are 60oz of amalgam on hand from 17 tons of quartz. Djxon's Claim. — The proprietors have banked 250z 7dwt gold from 55 loads of quaitz.

Cambria. — The leader in the top of the rise in the drive at No. 4 level is about 9 inches in thickness. There is some nicelooking mineral showing through the quartz, and colours of gold were seen when breaking down the leader. Gold was seen through the quartz when breaking down the No. 6 leader below No. 3 level, the No. 7 leader, the haugingwall portion of the main reef over No. 3 level, and the hangingwall leader. 35 loads of quartz have been crushed during the week for the return of 730z lOdwt of amalgam.

New 4-LBURKiA. — In the back stope, hangingwall lode, colours of gold were seen on Monday. Irwin and party have on hand 551b picked stone, and will crush shortly.

Saxon. — At No. 5 level, 15 feeb of the reef shipped last we6k was broken down yesterday, and is a compact, body of stone from a foot to 15 inches in thickness, carrying fair minerals and showing a libtle gold. Small patches of picked stone are coming to hand occasionally. The battery has been kept fully employed during the week, with the exception of the first start, and an average of 26 loads per day has been pub through. Amalgam on hand for week, 3750z ; picked stone saved, 751b.

New Prince Imperial. — The lode which was sbripped in the two sfcopes above !No. 3 level was broken down on Monday and Tuesday. In the top stope a few good dabs of gold wore seen, but no picked stone obtained. There are now 11 loads of quartz on band, and 5 or 61b picked stone.
