MINING NEWS, TE AROHA.

OflAMproN G. am! S. M. Co. : TheWn onthis property, are how engaged driving in the intermediate level for ventilating purposes, and expect to intersect the reef shortly. They are now in a distance of 90 feet. j Champion No 4 : Two men are en- i gaged in breaking out quartz, and the stuff coming to hand is of a very kindly nature. Tui Beduction Co.'s Claim : Early this week some very good stuff was broken out in various parts of the property. About two cwt. of sample dirt was sent to Mr J, H. Keep, Auckland, on Wednesday last. Mr D. H. Bayldon, surveyor, on behalf of the Champion Gr, and S. M. Co., recently laid off a tramway to the mines. The tramway is to be an endless wire one, and is to start from the Company's machine site (at the rear of Mrs Wainwright's house) and thence extend to the Champion mines. The distance will be about 1^ miles, direct. Mr Bayldon succeeded in obtaining an excellent line for the tramway ; there are no engineering difficulties to OTercome, and the grade is an easy one. The greater portion of the plant required for this tramway has been lying at Te Aroha for a considerable time past. Mr Bayldon, by direction of the Co., also recently made a mining survey for the Champion mines, and the map prepared will show all the reefs, levels, and workings. This has been done to enable the directors the better to formulate a system for future operations in developing the ground. Messrs Murray and Devey, who have taken the contract to take down and convey to Paeroa, the whole of the battery plant at Te Aroha, known as Ptacey's, I are busily engaged on the work ; and already have a good deal of the machinery taken to pieces. The plant includes 10 head of stampers (not five only, as stated by error in our last issue), 5 berdans, steam engine and boiler (about 25 horse power), etc., etc. ; and will be conveyed to Paeroa by barges ; and thence be oarted to Waitekauri. It is a matter for regret that a useful little plant like this should, after being so long in the district, now be removed to a distance.
