CARD PLAYING IN A RAILWAY TRAIN.
George Freeman was , chained ab the Police Court 6 , Brisbane, with obtaining £713 from J. Jackson by means of false pretences.. It appears Jackson and Freeman were travelling in the train together, when the raccusod proposed a game of cards. Jackson agreed, and played till he lost , over £713. He afterwards gave the accused in charge, alleging that he had been robbed. The" Beuch held that there was, no case, against the accused, who was consequently discharged.
An advertisement for a wife in Berlin recently brought 277 answers, eighty-seven of whom were widows. The damage inflicted by the recent flood in East London is' estimated at £100.000.
