WESLEYAN CHURCH.
The quarterly meeting of office bearers in connection with the Wesleyan Church in the Upper Thames Circuit was held at Te Aroha last Wednesday evening, Rev. S, Lawry, superintendent of the Circuit, occupied the chair. Owing to the rain which fell heavily during the evening, several were prevented from attending, making the meeting a smaller one than "was expected. It transpired that the financial arrangements suggested at the previous meeting had been in most places energetically taken up ; and it is hoped that all the places will adopt the proposed methods, and shortly place-the circuit on a sound financial basis. As several returns had not come to hand the quarterly balance sheet could not be completed. Arrangements were made for holding the annual Home Mission services during next month, when Rev, W. ICeall of the Thames is expected to spend several days in the Circuit, beginning with Sunday, 14th. In accordance with the request of the preceding meeting* the Chairman had prepared a report of the work throughout the' Circuit. This was presented to the meeting, and ordered to be read before the various congregations at an early date. On the nomination of the Chainnan/jMr W. J. Elliott, who has been working for some time past as a Home Missionary in the Circuit, was unanimously recommended as a candidate for the regular work of the ministry. On the motion of Mr H. Buttle (Circuit Steward), a unanimous invitation was accorded to Roy. S. Lawry to continue his services in the Circuit for a third year. This was duly accepted, subject to the usual approval of the Conference. After dealing with several other matters of minor importance, the meeting was adjourned till January 3rd, 1889.— Supplied. ,- , .
