WELLINGTON NOTES. Wellington, Sept. 22.

ABOLITION OF NATIVE AND WORKS DEPARTMENTS. The Premier and Messrs Mitchelson, Fisher and Richardson were engaged in Cabinet for the whole of yesterday morn' ing and the greater part of the afternoon. The business under consideration was mostly of a routine character and included matters of detail in connection with the abolition of the Native and Public Works Departments.

SCHOOL AGE. The Hawke's Bay Education Board have passed resolutions that in cases where doubb arises as to whether a child is under schoo age a certificate shall be obtained from the Registrar. In many instances difficulty might arise from the fact that a majority of the Registrars are paid by fees. The Government have, therefore, decided that any Board which requires to take the precaution of ascertaining doubtful ages may obtain the necessary information without charge through the medium of the RegistrarGeneral's Department.
