CARRIAGE OF MILK BY RAILWAY.

The promise made by the New Zealand Dairy Association when interviewing tteh c Hon. E. Mitchelson on Saturday, that any concessions received by them from the Government; should be , transferred direct to the settler and not be a source of profit to the Association, has already been kept by anticipation. The Association has forwarded to its milk suppliers the circular printed below. The extra price to be paid in accordance with this volunteered advance will amount to between £400 and £500 .per annum. Our settlers are not slow ,to acknowledge liberal treatment, and in the event of the reductions on freights not being granted it is to be hoped that the Association's spirited conduct will meet with such appreciation as to .indirectly recoup this expenditure by "the increase of trade. The following is the circular :—: — 'A Auckland, September 15th, 1888. Dear Sir, — It' affords me pleasure to-be able to inform you that our terms for I .,he purchase of milk are to be at once altered in favour of the supplier. I now notify you that;for the months of February, March, April, and May, you will, receive for- each gallon of milk one farthing, more than the sum you have agreed to accept. Th.ese terms are to be given only to- those of our present season's clients who see their way to giving .their guarantee before the end of the.second week in October. It is the- opinion of my directors that those who are giving such cordial support to our Association's first efforts are alone entitled to this consideration. The terms upon which later suppliers -will be accepted are - those of the agreement with which you are familiar, without the -bonus -which is now promised to yourselt. The increased price which is to, be .given will doubtless be accepted by you as evidence of our Association's wish to. do its utmost to assisti.the former. I may inform you ,that .the 1 - circumstances of the coming, season have in no wise altered. You were assured,. that .the, price, which you r were- good enough to accept, was the outside which our prospects warranted in offering. You will doubtless tappreciatethisadvance, which -you are aware is offered after our agreement>with youi\dis- ,- trict- has been completed, 'and * which - you now. learn is given for. your encouragement, and as an earnest of >ourv Association's determination to deal libejcallyiwith your people. ■ Will you please adyise your non-subscribing neighbours .of these -terms, and of J the limitation. of , their, acceptance to fche.end of ,the second week- in- October. •— Yours.etc, W>. Spragg, Manager. ' '
