TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE BY A DIVER.
A . diver named Charles Byere had a miraculous escape at the Falls Bridge, Melbourne. The coffer dam was leaking, and he was sent down to repair the leak. He had got within 6ft of the bottom >vhen the leakage burst, the water and silt rushing violently in. The suction drew Byers down, and his right leg was drawn through the aperture, while Ins left le^r was> fixed against his chefct, his lcfo arm being pinned against the side of the ouLsiHe wall by the rush of water. His right, arm being free, he signalled with the lifeline, which broke v hen those at the surface attempted to draw him out. Two divers went to his assistance, and succeeded in gei ting Byers out after being buried in the silt for three-quarters of an honr. He was nearly exhausted when brought to the surface.
