MINING NEWS.
Thames, Sept. 12. Cambria. — The drive at No. 4 level has been discontinued, and a start made to rise on the leader cut some time ago in the tee drive. This leader is about three inches thick, and is composed of very kindly I quartz, in which colours of gold have been seen. There is no change to report from any of the other workings. Trenton*. — Fair headway is being made with the sinking of the shaft. Saxox. — Colours of gold are seen in the quart?, coming to hand from the various slopes, but very little picked stone is obtained. Good progress is> being made by the contractors with the dri 1 c at No. 5 level, and colours of gold are occasionally seen when breaking down the reel. CmuRJA. — The mine manager leporls that the leader in the bottom ot the winze on the 6Hi leader is> about 6 inches in thickness Dabs and colours of gold were seen extending through the quartz when breaking down the leader on Monday. Colours ot gold were <:een thiough the quai U when breaking down the 3rd and 4th stopes on No. 7 leader. There is about 12 inches of the main reef being broken out for crushing, and the hanging leader is about 9 inches in thickness. Colours of gold weie seen through the quart/, when breaking it down. 101b picked stone came to hand from thehangingwallportion of the main reef on Thursday last. Colours of gold were seen through the quail/ while breaking down hangingwall leader, 30 loads ot quartz have been ciushed during the week for the return of 92o f A amalgam. 6 loads tailings have been put through the berdans during the week for the return of 13oz amalgam. Ni.w Prince Imperial.— Three tribute parties will be ciushing this week, bub none of them will have a payable return. New Alburnia. — The mine manager wired to-day: — "201b picked sbone from slopes on Jobe's leader, battery level." Saxon*. — Colours of gold have been observed in the quartz in most of the leaders when breaking them down lately. 2 or 3 Ib of picked stone have been selected from the 4th stope. 176 loads of general dirt from the Old Caledonian and 59 loads at the New Prince Imperial battery have been crushed for the return of 180oz of retorted gold, which will be melted to-day.' A cablegram has been received by the manager of the Bank of New South Wales from Mr John Buchanan, advising him that the purchase money in connection with the sale of the Paroquet G.A'I. Company's mine has been placed to the credit of the Company. Wellinutox, Sept. 13. Most of the additional mineial exhibits have been sent to Melbourne by the s.s. Manapouri. The more valuable specimens will be sent by the s.s. Wairarapa next week, Mr Gordon taking charge of them and selecting besc portionbto be forwarded to the Paris Exhibition.
