Th« Government have decided to appeal from the decision of the Supreme Court in the case ot Chun Leoug Loy against the Collector of Customs. ]n the Legislative Assembly Sir J3ryan O'Loghlin supported the action of the Government in preventing the influx of Chinese, and said if the Judge's decision was correct the whole system ot Australian Government had broken down. The Hon. H. C. Pearson, Minister for Public Instruction, in leplv Co adveise critieibins, said the action of the Government was really contending for the national existence of the colonies. The object the Government had in view was to prevent the country being flooded by convicts and aliens.
