Dokdin, September 8. The 12th interprovincial lootball match between Canterbury and Ota^o, \va- placed today on the Caledonian tliound. The weather wat all that could be desired. The ball wa.-< soon back in the Canterbury quarters-, and Thomson pa&sing to Downes, the latter playei potted a neat goal. The ball went into touch, and tiomthe thiow-in Stevenson, Morri&on and Anderson broke away, the latter securing a try before the Canterbury men had recovered iiom their astonibhtnent. Montgomery tailed to kick a goal. Otago, 4 ; Canterbury, nil. A lo& of loose work followed, Allardyce, Cresswell, Bevvy, Plank, (larvard, and others doing good work for the visitors ; and the local team, by a series uf good papses, then managed to add another try, secured by Hunter. Thomson made a good attempt at goal, but the leather went wide. Otago, 5 ; Canterbury, 0. Before many minuteb had elapsed, some good play by Thomson and Morris enabled the latter to ciop* the line, but the ball was called back tor handball. The Canterbury players then infused more life into the work, Turnbull, Allardyce, Berry, and others being prominent in several rushes. The collaring of Otago was too good, however, to admit ot a peore, Broderick, Thomas, and Croxford being: conspicuous. For the rest of the spell the ball was mostly on Otago's ?ide of the half-Hag, and half-time was called with the score as* follows : Otago, 5 ; Canterbury, 0. Otago forced down shortly after the "kick oft, and after some sharp play, a splendid dribble by Anderson took the ball to the Canterbury quarters. From a scrum Croxtord made a fine run and got in, but from an easy try Lynch only kicked a poster — Otago six points (to nil. The local men continued to press the visitors, and then came another irresistible rush of the Otago forwards, in which Montgomery, Son tag, Anderson, and Gibson took part, the latter scoring another try. Thomas failed to increase the score. Play was very exciting until the finish, but the game ended without further score, Otago winning by 7 points to nothing. A few minutes before time Bioughton, the Canterbury fullback, letired, having keen hurt \vhen collared.- I
