Washington, August 22. The Fisheries Treaty between Canada and the United States has been rejected in the Senate by a majority ot three. The discussion of the measure proceeded on party lines. Twenty-seven Democrats voted in favour of the treaty, and thirty Republican senators against it. Great excitement prevailed in the Senate when the result of the division was, announced. Senator Morgan, in the course of a speech delivered immediately after the result was known, said that if England had acted in a bimilar manner towards the United States the latter Power would have taken it as a direco challenge of war. It is expected that further trouble will arise between Canada and the United States in con&equencc of the rejection of the tieaty. A .section of the "Press Ls adopting a warlike tone ; but there is veiy little excitement thioughout this country or in Canada at the result.
