Sydxjsy, August' 27. The engineer of the Gas Company states it as his opinion that he will not be able to maintain the supply of gas to this city for more than a month in the absence of further supplies of coal from Newcastle.
Newcastle, August; 25. The report that the coal mine proprietors had sent to England for 3,000 men to take the places of those on strike is denied.
RESULTS IN VICTORIA. Melbourne, August 27. If the- miners' strike proves protracted, the result will be very seriously felt in this c >lony. Owing to the want of coal to keep factories going, it will be necessary to lock out a large number of tradesmen and other workmen.
