THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR OF DAIRIES.
Mr MgCauatm, the Government Inspector of Dairies, who arrived in Auckland on Thursday, left yestorday afternoon to visit the different pastoral districts in the Waikato, and inspect the cheese and butter factories dotted over the country within a radius of a hundred miles from this city. Mr McCallum is peregrinating the colony for the purpose ol giving practical hints to settlex*s engaged in the prosecution of dairying pursuits. The Government, who bear the whole expense of Mr McCallum's -vi&its, have beforehand communicated with the various County Councils apprising them of Mr McCallum's movements, and asking them to state whether a visit from shat gentleman would, be of benefit to thoir respective districts. Up to the present time, we understand, Tauranira is the only place in the Auckland district that has made a request for a visit, but Mr McCallum will move about and make inquiries in other localities. In the meantime, any person wishing to communii cate with Mr McCallum should address Post Office, Hamilton. He wall be glad to confer with managers of dairy factories, or with those who carry on dairying* operations on their own farms. Mr McCallum has shown ns that he was in no way to blame for his brief stay in Taranaki. His visit there was duly announced, and settlers and County Councils were invifcod to communicate with him ; but only one gentleman consulted him, and, as he did not wish to lose time unnocessarily, he came on to Auckland. It is to be hoped that full advantage will bo taken of hi& presence in I/he district by those requiring advice or infor1 mation.
