Discovery of Gold in Scotland.
(Jolu is small but, it is said, paying quantities has just been discovered in the parish of Applecio.ss, on the \vet>b coast of Ro&s. The news of the discovery having rapidly spread, quite a local gold-tever has act in ; and {i largo number of natives arc daily lnud ac work — in many cabes with most primitive appliances — removiug the goldbearing band at low water, and washing it afc their 'leisure. While a, few of the ir«ore industrious and fortunate ot these are making up to 5s per day, the others, owing to their inexperience and waut of proper appliances, ate having absolutely no luck. Two experienced miners who are at work have not allowed their luck to transpire : but it is understood that thoir success is encouraging. As the Snir-a-Chaca is covered at high spring tides, no interference on the purfc ot tho proprietor is anticipated. Mr Christopher Mackenzie, merchant. Shicldaig, ha.s secured a small quantity of the precious dust at the rate of £2 15s per ounce ; but tho miners gehorally are holding out
