It was reported by the various mine managers, etc., that the following parcels of samples of ore would be sent to the Exhibtion, under the anspicies of this committee :—: — From Karangahake : Woodstock, 5 cwt ; Kenilworth, scwt mbbly quartz, and scwt silver ore ; Crown, scwt ; Ivanhoe, 2cwt ; Standard, 2cwt ; and probably some from the Imperial. From Maiototo : Prospectors, 2cwt ; Silver Queen, 2cwt. From Owharoa, Smile of Fortune, Farmer's Tribute, lewt. From Waitekauri : Jubilee, lewt ; Saxon (late Eclipse), lewt. From Whangamata, lewt. Mr W. J. Walker, wrote, saying that his directors had instructed him to send a parcel of ono ton. He is also sending a neat cabinet of specimens from the various portions of the mine. The Martha Extended is also sending a sample. It was also stared that independent of this committee, the Aroha portion of the field was sending as follews : — Tui, scwt galena, sc\vt silver ore ; Tui Extended, scwt, carbonate of lead, etc., etc' It will thus bo seen that this portion of the field will be well represented. In mining matters things are keeping on the even tenor of their wny. At Waihi, Mr Walker has put in a crosscut from the Kosemont winze, and dunng the past fortnight hns struck a reef which prospects fairly for both gold and silver. Two charges of ore have been successfully treated in the calcening furnace. Bain and Colebrook are well on with their respective contracts, the former having sunk about 60 feet in the draining shaft, and has met as yet with little water. ■ At Wnitcknnri, Mr Kersoy Cooper intends making an immediate start in I developing the Jubilee Special Claim. A large lot of steel rails came up in this week's boat. Mr Cooper has not yet decided on the plant he will erect. | Harry Skene is still getting patches of very rich ore in his portion of the Saxon mine. He is also putting in a level under the rich patch struck some time since that went at the rate of 450z to the ton. Birnie and Goodwin, in tho Welcome, are also on good stuff from their Ifttle leader, and Geo. Mason is preparing a crushing from his tributo in the Young New Zealand. At Owharoa, Farmer and party are crushing from their tribute in the Smile, which is shaping well. Pleitman and party, Woodstock tributers, at Karangahake, are crushing tho balance of their ore at the Ivanhoe battery, which is shaping for a soz return. They have over 100 tons. The stone breaker at the Parkes' furnace having proved usoles^, Mr Parkes has decided to get a sot of rollers in its place. Thoso are being made at Prices' on the Thames. This will delay the commencement of smelting for two or three weeks. The remains of Mrs G. N. McGruer, late wife of tho popular manager of the Crown mine, were interred atthe Paeroa Cemetery on Saturday last, a large concourse of -settlers being present. Much sympathy is felt for tho bereaved husband. Messrs Plumb and Bell, two gentlemen connected with New Zealand mining iit Sydney, have been on a visit to this district during the week. Mr John H. Moore, the manager of the Marototo, accompanied them on their visit.
